User research techniques are recommended for products that are at the heart of your business. At the end of the day, it's your customers who will make or break your business. Therefore, the opinions and experience of these important people should take center stage.
Usability reviews are excellent for catching the glaring usability issues and design standard violations, but only the customer who has to use the product at work, on the go, with friends, or for fun can tell you precisely how your product measures up. Talking to customers and observing them while they use your product is the most valid way to assess your product, learn about your target market, and identify helpful and often surprising new features or product ideas.
